• The medical name for Prozac is Fluoxetine hydrochloride



• Prozac is usually used for treating depression and stress, but is also useful for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia, and obesity



• It is also marketed under the name Sarafem, used to treat PMS (pre-menstrual tension)



• Prozac must not be combined with MAO inhibitor drugs - doing so can be fatal.



• Prozac is a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, and acts to boost levels of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is the chemical believed to govern moods



• Prozac dosage for depression is usually between 20mg and 60mg daily.
