Xenical Clinical Trials
Xenical is the most-studied weight loss drug ever, with over 7000 patients having taken part in clinical trials worldwide. The results of these trials consistently show that Xenical is an effective agent for weight loss, with only minor, short-term side effects. As a result of these trials, Xenical has been approved for use as a weight loss drug in over 19 countries. The FDA approved Xenical for use in the USA in 1997, following a double-blind trial conducted on over 4000 patients in the U.S. and Europe. This trial showed that patients, when taking Xenical in conjunction with a moderately reduced calorie diet, lost an average of 10% of their body weight over the course of a year. A study by the Journal of the American Medical Association supported these findings in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 1999: "Conclusions: Two-year treatment with orlistat [Xenical] plus diet significantly promotes weight loss, lessens weight regain, and improves some obesity-related disease risk factors."
